Cheap Flights to Hobart

Hobart may be the smallest capital city, but it comes packed with things to see and do. While its island location suggests a place that’s far away, Hobart is anything but remote. With direct links from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, Hobart is little more than a one stop connection to the rest of Australia. Flying time from Melbourne is just over one hour, with Sydney under 2 hours, and Brisbane, approximately two and half hours away.

Best of all, there are plenty of great airfare deals to be found with Aunt Betty. While Hobart Airport is small in comparison to its capital city cousins on the mainland, both Qantas (QantasLink) and Virgin Australia, as well as Australia’s top two low fare airlines, Jetstar and Tigerair, all offer competitive one-way and direct fares.

Peak and off season: When to get the best deal

There’s no better time to visit Tasmania than in summer. The warm, sunny days brighten any holiday, and in Hobart, visitors will find plenty to see and do. With summer comes school holidays, and lots of family travel, but with the increased service by low-fare airlines, and increased competition between Qantas and Virgin Australia, there are still airfare deals to be found even in this peak travel season.

Of course, Hobart is a four season destination and there’s plenty to see and do during the cooler months. Enjoy the Tasmanian spring bloom or take in the autumn colours. And what can be more cosy than curling up in front of a warm fire at one of Hobart’s boutique hotels or B&Bs? Outside of school holidays, these are the best times to find low fares to Hobart.

Hobart as transit or stop-over destination

Located on Tasmania’s southern shore, this historic port city has become a hub of activity, with pubs and restaurants, brew houses and shops now occupying the swank, colonial era warehouses at Salamanca Place. Of course you won’t want to miss the Salamanca Markets, where every Saturday the waterfront venue offers nearly 300 retail stalls. Shoppers will find everything from clothing and jewellery to ceramics and glassware, and of course food! Still hungry? Sampling the fish ‘n chips along the waterfront is a must, or if you’re into something swankier, head to Elizabeth Street Pier for a sit down lunch or dinner.

Take a step back in time with a stroll through nearby Battery Point. Filled with colonial era homes and buildings, the neighbourhood is the perfect spot for shopping, antiquing and sightseeing. Some of the city’s best restaurants and cafes can be found here too.
