Paris as transit or stop-over destination
The arts, French culture, history and romance all come alive in Paris, which is why many find the French capital so appealing. Naturally, travellers will find plenty to see and do here, and even if flying through on a short layover, overnight jaunt or weekend trip, Paris makes it easy to fit in all the highlights in a short space of time.
Paris is a walkable city, but there’s always a nearby Metro stop to get you from place to place. One good place to start is at the Eiffel Tower on Paris’ Left Bank (or south side of the River Seine). Other Left Bank attractions include the Latin Quarter, the beautiful Jardin des Plantes, and the most Parisian of neighbourhoods, Saint Germain.
On the north side of the river, the Right Bank is famous for the Arc de Triomphe, the famous boulevard Champs-Élysées, and such French icons as The Louvre (home to the Mona Lisa), and the magnificent Palais Garnier Opera House. Straddling the two banks you’ll find the 700-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral as it overlooks the Seine from Ile de la Cité.
